Lorna's Story

This is Lorna's first job in care which she does part time whilst studying.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT ALEXANDRAS?

I am a Community Carer working part time for the St Austell team around my College where I am studying Health and Social Care.

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU JOINED ALEXANDRAS?

I was a waitress and a pasty maker!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Everyone who works at Alexandras is really lovely is the first thing. The second is the variety of work and how every day is always a little bit different with new things to learn

WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT ALEXANDRAS?

Communication - we all work to keep each up to date on clients and their needs and it works really well ensuring we're always prepared.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR?

I'm up early as I live a little way out. I mainly work on doubles {providing care with another carer} so I meet who I am working with around 7am and then we start our visits to clients together.

I work a variety of shifts around my college work from 1/2 days to split shifts finishing at lunch and starting again around 4pm on longer days. It definitely keeps me busy.
